As we celebrate Lyngblomsten’s 120th anniversary this year, we’re looking to highlight threads that tie the present and future to our past.  One thread that is woven so strongly into the fabric of Lyngblomsten is Christ.  When the women who founded the organization in 1906 defined their purpose, they stated they wished to provide a Christian home for elderly Norwegians who had no one to care for them. While all faiths and cultures are welcome at Lyngblomsten today, our mission is rooted in Christianity and influences our approach to caring for older adults.

Of course there is no way to document this, but it’s easy to imagine that every day for the past 12 decades, prayers have been said at Lyngblomsten and prayers have been raised for Lyngblomsten through our churches and supporters. Twenty years ago, a prayer was written for use throughout our centennial year.  As we reflect on our history and our pillar of “Influenced by Christ,” it’s a meaningful time for taking up this prayer anew.

Anniversary Prayer

Commissioned as the “Centennial Prayer” for the 100th Anniversary of Lyngblomsten in 2006 and renewed for the 120th Anniversary in 2026

Gracious God,

You have blessed Lyngblomsten’s legacy of
Christian service to the elderly, and we are grateful.
We praise You for guiding our work to help older adults live
with hope and dignity through compassionate care and
innovative services.

We give You thanks for the older adults in our community
and congregations, for their experience, wisdom, and
example of faith. We give You thanks for the younger
people who have found meaning and purpose in serving
older adults. We thank You for the generous donors and
volunteers who embrace our mission and carry it forward in
Your name.

We pray for those for whom the aging process has brought
loss of independence, health, and control. Be their source
of strength and comfort. Grant endurance to all who
are caregivers.

Your Spirit compels us to continue the legacy.
May You continue to bless all those who work to fulfill
Lyngblomsten’s mission. We pray that You will renew us
each day to see one another with the same compassion,
truth, and grace with which you see us.

Young or old, we are Yours throughout all generations.
Amen.
